"Freedom of Information: Penang's Experience" Forum


In conjunction with International Right to Know Day which falls on 28th September every year, Pertubuhan Wartawan dan Jurugambar Akhbar Cina Pulau Pinang (PEWAJU), Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ), Coalition for Good Governance Penang (CGGP),Suara Rakyat Malaysia, SUARAM Penang Branch, and Sembang-sembang Forum are organising a forum on "Freedom of Information: Penang's Experience". 

Selangor is the first state in Malaysia to pass a Freedom of Information (FOI) Act in April this year. Penang is taking steps towards a similar Bill to be passed by its State Assembly soon. The Penang Select Committee on FOI has completed 2 public consultation meetings before tabling the Bill for second and third reading in the state assembly. 
 
This forum will look at Penang's experience, through discussing the fundamentals of the people's right to information, and exploring what kind of FOI law would be good for Penangites.
